Steve's Vision for Volente

My vision for Volente is to preserve our lakeside community character and strategically plan for our inevitable growth and development.  Let's do this in a way that benefits all the current residents with improved roads, public safety, property rights, water quality, and low taxes.



Why i want to serve on city council

• Simplify the Ordinances

Reduce the volume and complexity of the ordinances and make them easier to understand and implement. Make them consistent with our comprehensive plan goals and the desires of the community. 

• Preserve the Quiet and Beauty

Help Volente deal with the development of Volente Peak, the BCRUA pipeline, and the potential new projects in the commercial and entertainment areas. 

• Finish What I Started

I would like to finish some uncompleted projects from my first two years on council that will help minimize taxes.  This includes collecting grant funds, negotiating with Cap Metro on the timing and amounts of the recaptured taxes, making sure we are getting sales taxes from all the area businesses which offsets the property taxes we need to raise, finalizing the FEMA approval of the Hazard Mitigation Plan to qualify us for FEMA funding, and completing the implementation of some financial management improvements.

• Improve our Governance - Not Give It Away

I don’t think we should turn our governance over to Travis County bureaucracy and complexity and expect that they will serve us well and understand how Volente is different from Austin.   They would put our residents in line behind their 1.2 million residents.  I want to simplify and minimize our ordinances and streamline and personalize our processes and manage our own rules and operations.

Qualified, Experienced

I am CPA and consultant with 30 years’ experience in strategic planning, operations efficiency and negotiating.  I have served two years on Volente council as the Mayor Pro Tem and have chaired the Finance/Admin committee and the Public Safety committee.

Objective, Independent

I have no construction plans nor business interests here.  I am not part of any faction or group that pressures me to support their goals.  My family plans to spend the rest of our lives in Volente and I just want to help make it a wonderful place to live.
