Why is this Election so Important?

BCRUA Pipeline

Council is working to protect our properties, roads and water wells from a large pipeline that the BCRUA plans to run under the Village from Jackson to Sandy Creek. We are working on an interlocal agreement with them and oversight of their activities to be sure the residents are not negatively affected.

Site Development Ordinance

Council is working to replace the ordinance with one that is simpler, easier to implement and follow, and less restrictive. Along with this council plans to develop a builder’s packet, flow chart and a more automated and transparent permitting process.

New Town Hall Offices

The Village will be losing our lease on the existing space so council will be evaluating and negotiating alternatives for new city offices and meeting spaces and then setting up our new home that will need to support city services for many years into the future.

Volente Peak PDD

The development for the 300 acres of Volente Peak is controlled by a PDD agreement with the Village, however the agreement has expired. The Village has given the property owners two extensions to commit to the development, pay the Village $200,000 and give the Village 3 acres of land as required in the PDD agreement.  If this can’t be worked out then the Council will be re-planning the zoning and development of these 300 acres.

Mollberg Park

The Village has a pending law suit against Travis County to reclaim Mollberg Park for the residents of Volente.  Council needs to determine if and how to proceed, manage the costs and negotiate a settlement to benefit Volente. Mollberg could eventually be hike and bike trail, or a park, or just a very simple place for residents to have lake access and a natural area.  This area may be the only way that Volente could ever gain access to the water plant and the only chance for a local parkland for all residents.

Long-term Road Maintenance Plan

Over the next two years the Village will be implementing and overseeing a ~$250,000 plan (about 40% of our total budget)  that is the first part of a plan developed by our engineering firm to improve and maintain our roads and keep the costs down over the long run.  Processes for managing our Special Revenue and Committed Funds need to be implemented.  A major part of the funding for this project will come from sales taxes that have been recaptured from Capital Metro which council is still working with Capital Metro on the specifics of the timing and amounts.
